History

Colonel Hugh Nevins, a decorated 27 year veteran of the Army, commander of glider pilots in WW II, avid polo player and philanthropist founded our organization in 1974. Because of his dedication to this program he was inducted into the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame in 1994.

VIBeS officially became a non-profit (501c3) organization on March 23, 1998, after successfully operating under the umbrella of the Colorado Ski School for the Blind (CSSB) since 1989. This move to independence enabled VIBeS to implement more community oriented programming to fulfill the needs of the blind and visually impaired in the Colorado Springs area.
